ChatGPT CEO on Mindfulness, AI and the Future of Life: Sam Altman and Jack Kornfield
Today, I watched a video that I found compelling and thought to share with you. It was a conversation between Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI (the research company that developed ChatGPT), and wisdom teacher Jack Kornfield. The conversation was moderated by Soren Gordhamer.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenAI)
Their conversation offered some things to consider about both the opportunities and challenges of AI. It was clearly brought forward of the need for ethics and values in the development of AI, given how as AI continues to evolve, it will change the ways we interact with technology and one another.
This video was recorded at the Wisdom 2.0 - Together Conference, held in San Francisco in April 2023. A little bit more about these two:
Sam Altman recently, testified before Congress, expressing his concerns about the advancement of technology and advocated strongly for greater oversight by governing bodies. I was surprised when I learned that he holds no equity in OpenAI. His only compensation covers his health insurance.
Jack Kornfield may not require much of an introduction. He is an American Buddhist teacher and scholar, who has been instrumental in making the wisdom of Buddhist teachings and meditation accessible to the West. You can find more about him at Jack Kornfield and Spirit Rock.
